Architecture and hardware

Raspberry Pi was selected as a basic IoT sensor platform for this project. This was because it is readily available, cost effective card computer for IoT system development. System is scalable and generally independent of the hardware. We also utilize knowledge and long experience on sensors, signal analysis, and embedded systems of the Laboratory of Applied Electronics.

We use and evaluate different web platforms, databases and service providers in the implementation of the user interface and data analysis. Currently we are working with IBM Cloud, and the status of the cafeteria can be found here:

This is one example of test platforms, where php-based web pages, data storage and API interfaces to the SQL-database are under development. Another platform for our IoT data acquisition and analysis is IBM Bluemix.
